i've had a bit of a nightmare day with technology today. my computer crashed whilst i was updating my ipod software, which took between 3-4 hours to fix. my laptop has been crashing somewhat constantly since then. and now the connection to this website's server keeps timing out - making uploads at best frustrating and at worst impossible. despite all these hindrances - i still thought it a good time to update the look of the site. it's been a while since i've done a major revision, and i was getting a bit bored of the old look - so welcome version 5. old updates usually consisted of adding to existing code, that made for quite a bloated page. on this occasion i worked from scratch to try and make it all more efficient. but you really don't care about that. while the look is a little different, the functionality is largely similar. i guess the two major changes is the removal of the slideshow function. it never worked quite as i would have liked, so i want to improve this before i bring it back. my favourite new addition, which actually existed in older versions, but not the last one, is the option to view the site with a white or black background. you can do this by clicking the links in the top right under the trees - and it should remember your choice. in general i think photos work better with a black background - but you can be the judge of that. i also fixed a few bugs related to leaving comments and liking on facebook. having said that, i did get a little impatient and rush the launch, so there may be new and different bugs that exist. if something isn't working then it would be good to hear about it. i've just arrived in a desert, and i think the internet is only going to get slower from this point onwards, so i can't really test as thoroughly as i should. here's hoping it doesn't all fall apart at the seams...
