no widows left to know
on friday i finished a tiring week of work in marrakech and after a little afternoon nap i spent the evening chilling out with my colleague in our hotel. the tv was on mute in the background when the news caught our attention and we switched the volume and our focus to the unfolding events in paris. the rest of the night was spent consuming as much information as we could digest from the french tv news channel as well twitter and other online news sources. i found it difficult to process, the victims were just people going out for food, watching live football, watching live music. that's what me and my friends like to do. that's what lots of people do to unwind, to have fun, to live. there's nothing to be achieved by comparing or codifying tragedies, as though some loss of life is of greater or lesser value to others, but something about that night in paris hit home in a way which i found particularly heartbreaking.
