through quiet reflection
i learned early on in my trip in the southern ocean that plans were fluid and at the mercy of the weather and conditions. the morning after stepping foot on the seventh continent for the first time we had intended to disembark at neko harbour to see a gentoo penguin rookery. however there was so much brash ice that it became impossible to approach the shore with either the ship or the zodiacs, so instead we travelled south to danco island. i guess i'll never know what i missed out on at neko harbour, but i certainly wasn't disappointed in our alternative nor the early morning journey to get there.
