to know what makes you tick

to know what makes you tick
stay a while my inner child, i'd like to learn your tricks, to know what makes you tick, to nurse you when you're sick
i took an instant and irrational dislike to twitter. that's not uncommon behaviour for me. i convinced myself for months that arctic monkeys were no good purely on the basis that they were popular, nme posterboys. then i heard their first album and found out they were brilliant. i didn't understand what twitter was about, and i don't claim to be an expert now, but the last few weeks i've certainly learnt how it can be quite addictive. i opened an account to essentially mirror the posts on this site, posting the same photos with lyrical links. but looking at the way others use it i've realised it's worth. it's a great way to share in cultural happenings from the ridiculous (eurovision song contest) to the ridiculous (the queens jubilee). it's interesting to keep an eye on when watching football (euro 2012) and see other peoples opinions on what your watching. it's also great for learning about breaking news stories which might otherwise pass you by. this is particularly true when you're travelling around south america away from your home country. and as i'm posting this they're just awaiting the result of the appeal in the twitter joke trial - an important precedent in free speech. but maybe the main reason i've been logging on a lot more recently is because there are some funny muthafuckas on there - people who post genuine laugh out loud tweets. i think my favourite is a dude called october jones who composes pretend text conversations between himself and his dog as well as funny random doodles. matt whatsit, gareth aveyard and gary bainbridge also keep me amused on a consistent basis - i've no idea who these guys are, i just know they make me laugh so i choose to follow them. my last true lol was from a user called kelly oxford who posted:

if you open your iphone camera when it's reversed, and your own face scares and shames you, it's considered cardio.

well it made me laugh. anyways if you feel like you have to look at pages on the internet other than this one, you could do worse than following the guys i linked to above. and me of course... although i'm far less entertaining.

if you're wondering how this relates to this photo, of a young girl living in a remote corner of colombia surrounded by sand and goats, well i'll have you know we had a very in-depth discussion about the merits of twitter and the impact of social media in modern society. as well as talking about goats. here's the original
