between the raindrops
i've recently noticed a sharp increase in the amount of spam that's been creeping it's way through the comments section of this website. after doing a little digging around it seems that most of it seems to be coming from china. i had a look on google of ways of combating this problem and it turns out a lot of the technical advice was sprinkled with some pretty hateful xenophobia. so i thought i'd look for a non-racist solution. i found something called a honeypot trap which appealed as a) it stops people having to try and decipher those hard-to-read captchas and b) it made me think of honey. i'll have to wait a day or two to see if it has any noticeable impact on the spammers, but it's already had a pretty instant impact on my appetite.
