this clock keeps ticking away
i recently moved offices with work and consequently my commute is now even longer, over 2 hours each day. one positive side effect of this dead time is that i've started picking up books again. usually if there's some kind of digital distraction, be it tv, computer or playstation, i misguidedly convince myself that sitting and reading is a waste of time. however being transported across the city in an underground metal container recalibrates my priorities, permitting me to respect the printed word. as a result i've got through 8 books since the start of the year and my journey seems far shorter than the empirically recorded passing of time. the stand out title so far has been a million little pieces by james frey. he has a really unique writing style and managed to stir up all sorts of conflicting emotions which stayed with me long after i turned away from the page. on the downside i was in a bit of a state by the time i made it into work each morning.
