after getting up close with lemurs in andringitra i headed east to the rainforest in the hope of seeing some more. unfortunately the forest stayed true to it's name and it rained relentlessly for the entirety of the two day trek. as a result the lemurs i did see stayed at the top of the very tall trees, so it was tricky to look up at them without your eyes filling up with rainwater. furthermore the rain brought other animals out of forest... leeches. lots and lots of leeches. it was the first time i'd been introduced to these blood sucking invertebrates and after two days of feeding i'd be happy if it was also my last. as i said my hope was to have some close encounters with the local animals, in hindsight i should have been more specific with the details of that wish.
