water for elephants
when i was in south africa i was talking to a friend of a friend about planning on travelling to zimbabwe to see victoria falls. they told me once i was there i should take a visit to chobe national park where you can see swimming elephants. the way she described it sounded like a fantasy land, but a few days later i was there to see it for myself. i almost wasn't as the tour that i joined forgot to collect me from the hostel. when they finally did it was a rush of different vehicles and border crossings until i finally jumped on the correct boat which was floating out in the river. minutes later an elephant who was strolling along the bank just started walking into the river. it kept going until all that was visible was the trunk, acting as a huge snorkel, before it surfaced and began munching on a grassy island. and it looked every bit as awesome as that sounds.
