collecting silver coil
after the day had finally dimmed in the lake district the stars came out with no clouds to obscure them. i wrapped up and left the house to look for a good spot to set up my camera and tripod to take some star trails. it wasn't easy as i hadn't scouted out the area when it was light, also i discovered a lot of the fields were pretty muddy from the christmas day rain. i hopped over a couple of fences and eventually settled for a field with this northward view. i set up my camera to take a series of 30 second long exposure photos with a 10 second gap between each one and left it running as i returned to the warmth. i collected the camera an hour or so later with about hundred photos recorded, and then layered them all together using a similar technique to my madagascan star trails by overlaying one of the original shots above the trails blend to add points to the lines. i think it was the starriest night i'd seen all year so i was glad i was able to capture it before the year was out.
