the first stop on our namibian itinerary was etosha national park to see some african animals. we arrived at a lodge just outside the park and were given a map of recent sightings. we checked out a few in the morning, and then after lunch decided to visit a watering hole near the north gate of the park which had been circled elephants. it was a good one hour drive and we arrived to a whole lot of nothingness. disappointed we turned the car around and returned on a slightly different route. this new road ran parallel to the previous one, and when we turned to look across we saw a large blip on the horizon. the roads began to converge and it became clear that the map had been telling the truth, so we swung back on the original trail and got a private viewing of this thirsty elephant.
