living in solace
when i was travelling in kyrgyzstan last summer i took a 12 hour taxi from the capital bishkek in the north to osh in the south. the journey started and finished on an angry note but was beautiful in the long stretch in between. the anger started as my friend and i felt like we were being overcharged (for what was relatively a very cheap journey) and tried to haggle the price down. the anger ended when the same taxi driver refused to drop us at our hostel and kicked us out on the side of the road on the outskirts of the town. but like i say, between those two unpleasant events it was a really gorgeous drive. we ate lunch together, stopped to take pictures, and drove through the most spectacular of views.
