with the mourning sound
last week the once-in-a-year snowy london occured again, although this time it was a lot lighter, so it was more like snowflakes than snow falling from the sky. i wanted to try and capture some close ups of the snowflakes, but i soon realised that my lack of a specialist macro lens was a big hinderence to this goal. my best attempt at a workaround was to try a magnifying lens filter, which i've used some years ago when photographing leaves, and to use a rubber band to fix it to my 35mm lens so it would work with my current camera. it still wasn't enough to get the macro snowflake shots i had in mind, so i looked around my patio for alternative ideas, and tried it out on this random plant. for context these two plants were both only around 15mm tall. with such a shallow depth of field it was difficult to focus, and i think the filter contributed to an overall lack of sharpness, but in the absence of the correct equipment i was pretty happy with this result.
