window to another world
just over a week ago i returned from the coldest place on planet earth with thousands of photos i was eager to go through and post. however i discovered that home felt considerably colder, so much so that it started to snow on sunday evening. whenever this happens in london my instinct is to pick up my camera to try and capture it, the last time being a cold february morning last year. with the absence of sun i decided to put a candle in a lantern and set about photographing that in various spots in my patio. i then remembered i had just unpacked my glass sphere, which i had forgetfully left in my bag for the duration of my trip, so incorporated that into my lantern photoshoot. everything you capture through the sphere always appears upside down, so i decided to bury it in the snow which meant i could flip the image and it would still look correct. it took quite a bit of trial and error to pinpoint the correct settings, as well as focal point and positioning, but i persevered until my fingers were numb and was pretty happy with the final result.
instead of the usual pre-processed image, i thought it would be more interesting to show a (very short) glimpse behind the scenes
