down in the weeds
after the kings, adélie, macaroni, rockhopper, chinstrap and gentoo this magellanic completes the set of different penguins i saw on my trip. this was the only species that i had seen prior to this experience, back in my first visit to argentina many moons ago. i also thought that i'd seen them in south africa, but it turns out they were the similar looking african penguins, the subtle difference being that the africans have one band across their chest whereas these have two. apart from that my only other observation was that, like me, they both like to chill on a sunny beach.
