a thumbnail sketch
this is a close up shot of a black-browed albatross, who i encountered incubating an egg in a colony on west point island in the falkland islands. ordinarily these albatrosses make their nests on steep slopes and cliffs, however here they congregated in huge numbers high up on flat grassland. it was more incongruous to see an almost equal number of rockhopper penguins also sharing the same nesting space, considering those birds can't fly and it was quite a long hop away from the water. it was cool to see these two very different types of birds mingle as they both nested their eggs.
