the scenery from the ship as we sailed around the antarctic peninsula was simply stunning, particularly when we were carving through the brash ice that was floating on the polar water. on the odd occasion the captain would open up the bow so that we could get a closer view, and after taking a few landscape photos i saw a few snow petrels circling the ship. there were plenty of avian creatures who briefly joined the journey whilst we were out at sea, but these snow petrels were the prettiest. they can also change speed and direction pretty rapidly, so this shot was one of my many, many attempts trying to to capture them in flight.
