it's coming straight back for us
we had an extra early wake up call when we arrived in south georgia, as we hoped to set foot on the land with some nice morning light. however the weather conditions had other ideas, and we had to delay and then replace that trip with an excursion along the coast in zodiacs. the conditions continued to be a challenge throughout the morning, and we were uncertain if we'd be able to leave the ship in the afternoon. when it became clear that we could make our next stop, because of the way the landings were staggered, i found myself in one of the last groups to make it ashore. this meant that i would be one of the last to leave the island and return to the ship, an edict which i took full advantage of as the sun began to drop and the shadows stretched over the golden land. it was an absolute priviledge to be there.
i combined a couple of photos so that both penguins would be looking in different directions, here's one of the originals
