around the fire
amakhala isn't the cheapest place to stay for a safari, although it's also far from the most expensive. however you really feel like it's money well spent. it's the little touches that make it, from the complentary drinks when you return from a drive, to the a/c in the rooms that made it feel like walking from an oven into a refrigerator. one of the coolest aspects was in the evening you would sit down for dinner with one of the owners who would answer questions and explain about the history of the place. this was followed by post-dinner drinks around the fire pit.
