one of the main reasons i went to peru was to visit machu picchu. i forget where i first saw it - but the image of seeing it in motorcycle diaries really sticked in my mind. for people who know a little bit about peru, and in particular machu picchu, one of the first questions that followed the announcement of visiting the site was "are you going to walk the inca trail to get there?" i thought that it would be a massive cop-out to reply "nah, i'm just going to hop on the train" so despite being completely unfit and unprepared i ended up enduring/enjoying the four day trek. i've plenty more pictures to post from that time so all i'll say about this was that it was on day three, which was probably the longest day, and it was on a stretch of about 2000 steps downhill. a little bit of a knee killer.
