zilch
i just spent the weekend away with some mates and got into a highly addictive dice game called zilch. the rules are both complicated at first but really simple once you get your head around it. you start with six dice, and it's the first to reach 10000 points. you get points buy rolling a 1 (100) or a 5 (50) or a triple. for triples you add two zeros onto the number - for example three 4's is 400, three 5's is 500 - the exception is with three 1's which is 1000. you also get extra points for rolling a straight, rolling three pairs, rolling four, five or six of a kind. after you roll the six dice you have to put at least one scoring dice aside. you can then choose to stick with that, or re-roll the remainders. if you end up with six scoring dice you get to have another go. you might be sceptical, but trust me - once you get into in and you have thousands rolling on a throw of a dice it gets pretty exciting. oh, and it probably doesn't hurt to have a large amount of alcohol inside you.
according to wikipedia it goes under a few different names - but if you want more info on the rules check out what they call dice 10000
