la paz
this is la paz, the (administrative) capital of bolivia, and this was our first view of it when we were coming in on the coach from the peruvian border. it's one of the highest major cities in the world, ranging from between 3,000 - 4,000 metres. and it's surrounded by even higher altiplano, which makes it look like a huge number of buildings have sprouted up inside a crater. the city itself is a little strange. it's fairly dirty, there's a lot of poverty, and (reportedly) it's a bit on the dangerous side - but there was a weird vibe to the place that i kind of liked. i was only there for a few days but i would have liked to explored it for longer.
