tonight i saw one of the worst results of arsenal's season. we lost 2-1 to spurs which was bad for a number of reasons. spurs are our local rivals... we hadn't lost to them in the league for over a decade... the defeat effectively ends our chance of winning the league, therefore our only trophy this season... i don't really want to go on as it'll just depress me to think of more negatives. an unusual aspect of watching the match tonight was that it was the first ever game that i've seen in 3D. not that i was there (i've done
that before) but it was at a pub with a fancy television,
sky 3D and geeky glasses. and from this first impression, my verdict was, it looks pretty damn cool. i can't get my head around the technology, as there's no shitty red and green effect, and it's filmed live so it's not something that was painstakingly altered in post-production. yet the depth that's created when the players closest to the camera stand out, and above, the players, pitch and fans behind, well it just looks cool as fuck. it didn't cost anything (apart from a fiver deposit for the glasses) and i didn't get a headache or any other side effects (which considering i've had a cold for a week is impressive in itself). in fact the only real downside was that to make the most of the 3D depth, the camera seemed to be positioned at a lower angle than normal. this is akin to watching a game on the lower tier of a stadium: it made it harder to get a good view of the overall pitch and play. it also worked a lot better in close ups and replays compared to the standard wide shot. still, overall i was impressed and while it would be ridiculous to say that
all television is going to head in this direction, i'm sure it will be the future of how we watch certain broadcasts. and if they can figure out a way of doing it without the glasses then even better. i just hope this glimpse into the future doesn't extend to these kinds of soul/season destroying results against tottenham.
