i found out about monday's trip to hamburg at the end of last week. i was off work with a cold, and got a phone call asking if i fancied going out to germany. in the same conversation it looked likely that i might go to madrid a couple of days after. those two trips were to be in addition to a stag do in barcelona that was already planned for that weekend. three big european cities in one week, it sounded pretty crazy. it sounded pretty cool. it sounded too good to be true. and it was. the madrid trip was passed around the office before being replaced with the somewhat cheaper option of uploading the work instead of flying and delivering it. as for the barcelona trip, well i was supposed to catch a plane on friday morning, but all air travel in the uk has halted due to a volcano erupting in iceland. this volcano spewed tons of black ash into the air, which then got caught in a weather system before settling above the uk. apparently the cocktail of ash and jet engines causes planes to fall out of the sky so every flight had to be cancelled until the ash disperses. say what you want about acts of god, he's pretty fucking creative when he screws with you.

i had a quick scan of my archives to see if there was anything suitable to post, and the image i considered most comparable was steve drodz from the flaming lips being showered by ticker tape. yeah, ok, it's not quite the same thing, but i couldn't find any icelandic, volcanic, ash covered aircrafts in my collection. here's the original
