day two of the inca trail is, i think unanimously agreed as, the most difficult. this is in a large part due to the ascent towards dead woman's pass which is the highest part of the whole trail. the morning consists of a lot of walking uphill, at increasing altitude, which is unforgiving and steals the breath from your lungs. we all set off in a group, but this soon disintegrated as we all relaxed (which is completely the wrong word to use) into our own walking rhythms. i was the fifth of our group to make it to the pass, the third from the blokes which unintentionally made it even less impressive. we all waited for the rest of our group, caught our breath, and admired the amazing view. whilst i was waiting these two aussies from a different group arrived. that morning they had promised themselves that if they managed to make it to the top, they'd set up their camera and ipod and film themselves rocking out. the song they chose was alive by pearl jam. true to their word they spent the next the next five and half minutes pulling crazy faces, playing air guitar with their walking sticks, mumbling through the verses and screaming out the chorus. they may have looked like a pair of tits, but they stuck to their word, so fair play.

i couldn't chose between these two shots, i really liked the expression on the top image, but also really liked the simpleness of bottom one. as you can see i avoided the tough decision and put up both. so here are both originals
