here from a king's mountain view
on the second day of driving in south africa, i travelled to the wine regions of stellenbosch. in my head i knew exactly the photo i wanted, a beautiful landscape lit by the low, warm setting sun. however the sun disappeared behind the mountains far earlier than i anticipated, and i ended up driving up dead ends and blind alleys failing to find this elusive viewpoint. it was a long drive back to cape town as i got lost in the dark, and i returned to heavy rain and a flat tyre. so the day ended with me tired and frustrated, and with that nagging feeling that i had failed to capture this beautiful part of africa. it helps to have some perspective though, and whilst i never created a photograph from the mythical image in my head, i think this shot still succeeds in illustrating the beauty of stellenbosch.
