mellow yellow
when i started putting together this recent string of portraits i thought it would look good as a collection if they were all processed in black and white. well i guess i still think that's true, but then you don't necessarily view a photo as part of a collection, and after turning this one into black and white i felt underwhelmed. i remember being on the beach in south africa full of colourful huts and seeing this man with his equally colourful shirt. i approached him and said that i liked how he matched the background and could i take a photo, to which he graciously agreed. the yellow was the reason i took the picture in the first place, so then to desaturate it because photos from london and miami were monochrome, well that just doesn't make sense. so yeah today (and tomorrow) i'm all about yellow.
