retreating and advancing
the morning after i stamped on a rock under a waterfall i took a boat down the river to visit some more caves. the wound was in the very centre of my foot so i had to walk on my toes, this would continue for about a month and prove to be the most painful legacy of the accident. i tried, and by in large succeeded in not letting it prevent me from what i wanted to do. the doctor had instructed me to keep it dry, so i was keeping an eye on the low water as it splashed into the boat. that wasn't a problem for our fearless pilot who jumped in and out of the water to pull the boat upstream. his feet were clearly made of stronger stuff than mine.
