with what is left
this time last year i was coming to the end of a short trip in mexico. because i didn’t have much time i tried to pack in as much as possible, which included scuba diving and visiting chichen itza. i managed the former the day after i arrived in tulum, and the latter the day before i flew home. as it was so last minute i ended up doing something i almost never do, i joined an organised tour group. stepping onto the coach i was instantly reminded why. the day was full of inauthentic experiences and commercial opportunities with the kind of vacationers i didn’t want to hang out with. when i eventually arrived at the ancient mayan city i witnessed the consequence of being named one of the new seven wonders of the world... the place was packed with tourists. i can’t really complain as i was one of them, but it did make photographing it a challenge. even when i found an angle without any humans, roaming dogs would replace them. i was cool with that though, after all of those hours on the coach i was firmly on board with the principle that dogs > humans.
