staying above the flat line
i visited placencia at the end of my trip in belize for a couple of reasons. firstly was because i had read that it was possible to see whale sharks when you scuba dive from there. and secondly, when i looked at a map, i saw it was very close to a place called monkey river town which in my head sounded like the coolest place in the world. unfortunately when i got there the weather turned really bad, so i wasn't able to take either trip. in hindsight i would have had way more fun if i had stayed in guatemala where i was a few days before, but i if i had done that a part of me would have wondered what if i could have been hanging with the monkeys and whale sharks. sometimes these travelling decisions don't work out, but i was fortunate to see lots of monkeys in borneo the following year, and then whale sharks in mexico the year after that, so the perseverance paid off eventually.
