the pieces fit
after setting myself the challenge at the start of the month to post a photo from a different country each day, i've finally arrived at a country i haven't posted before... please welcome guatemala. i went there back in 2016 in what was quite an intense 2 months of travelling, in addition to guatemala i went to south africa, zimbabwe, botswana, usa, mexico, belize and ireland. i only spent a couple of days in guatemala when i spontaneously popped over from belize, with the primary ambition of seeing the ancient mayan city of tikal, but i really liked the vibe there and in someways preferred it to belize. i think it reminded me of my time in south america, the colourful houses of flores made me think of similar towns in colombia, and of course everyone speaking spanish. it was a shame that i couldn't stay and see more of what the country had to offer, so this is definitely another place which makes my every growing list of future destinations.
