painter in your pocket
after all that time in hampi, i travelled south to the city of mysore where i spent a week working over christmas before going further south to kerala. i spent new years on the coast in a place called kochi where a friend came over to meet me. my plan was to work as much as possible in december so i could take as much of january off as possible to travel. that was the extent of the plan, the actual route and destinations were very much up in the air and chosen somewhat spontaneously. within kerala my highlight was the town of munnar which is a hill station in the western ghats, and is full of amazing landscapes and tea plantations. the unplanned plan almost led us to renting a car and driving there ourselves, but typical indian hurdles prevented that from progressing so instead we settled for a taxi, ignorant that there was actually a bus option which would have been far cheaper. sorting those transportation issues meant we didn't end up arriving until it was dark, and despite the welcome drop in temperature you get at 1500 metres, it was difficult to get much of an impression of where we were. but that led to one of those little moments of joy you get when travelling, arriving to an unknown place in the dark and waking up to discover you're somewhere amazingly beautiful. i was not disappointed the following morning.
