back in the noughties i watched a tv show called lost, about a plane which crash lands on an unknown island in the pacific ocean, the survivors learn that they are not alone on this island and mysteries ensue. it was kind of infamous for introducing various questions and mysteries and then taking forever to actually provide any form of answer or resolution. one of the more intriguing ones that stuck with me was when a bunch of these survivors sail around to a new part of the island and see a giant four toed foot which are clearly ruins of what would have once been an even bigger statue. this was in season 2 and it wasn't until season 5 that the rest of the statue was finally revealed, for what it's worth it ended up being a statue of the egyptian god taweret which didn't really explain anything about anything.

in kanyakamari i started thinking about this as i looked out at the ocean of a giant statue of valluvar. i knew who this statue was because it's 2024 so i found the name on google maps and then looked on wikipedia to learn some more. but if it was 3024, or another random point in the distant future, i wonder what one would think looking at this statue? would it even still be standing, or submerged under rising sea levels, or perhaps all that will be left will be a loan foot standing on top of the ocean, mysteriously alluding to an ancient civilisation which has long since disappeared.

well these were the thoughts that were going through my head as i spent another night taking photos of the statue and stars. this time from a spot so the statue would be positioned due east. i've also created another video version from all of the resulting captures
