seasick steve
my main reason for going over to ireland a couple of weeks ago was because there was a music fesitval going on just down the road from where my girlfriend grew up called cois fharraige. it wasn't a big festival, but there were still a few bands playing that i liked such as supergrass and travis. one artist i'd never seen (or heard) before that was strongly recommended was this guy, seasick steve. a mate of mine had seen him at the big chill a few years ago by accident and said that he was amazing live. he's an old blues player, from the deep south in america, that plays rocking tunes with homemade guitars, often missing strings. these songs are often combined with amusing stories, or swigs from his bottle of jack daniels. amazingly he really lived up to the strong recommendation and there was a real buzz in the air when he played. i don't think i've seen as much energy from a performer in a while, all the more impressive when you consider that most of the gigs i go to are with artists who are over half his age. top man steve.
