while in peru i spent a day on lake titicaca. it's a lake that's probably mainly famous for three things, being really, really big, having a funny name, and the floating islands of uros. if your unfamiliar with that last fact, then it's worth reading up about because it's really fascinating. in a nutshell, it's a collection of man-made islands that are inhabited by indigenous families. these families use the reeds that are naturally found in the lake to construct their houses, their boats, their food, their fire, their models to show and sell to dumb tourists, and significantly, to build the islands themselves. it's pretty crazy place to be, but pretty cool as well.
