down at the docks - extra image
when i was working in cape town i stayed in very luxurious apartments on the waterfront, and when i finished working i moved into a considerably more economical hostel. i started chatting to the other travellers there and explained that i was in the city taking photos for work. they all said that i had such a cool job, to which i responded: yeah but it was really hard work... i'm so exhausted now. those complaints didn't really cut it, after all i was someone who enjoyed travelling and taking photos being paid to travel and take photos, i was just too close to the tiredness and stress of the previous week to appreciate it. with a bit of perspective i did realise how lucky i was to have the opportunity and i also recognised that, as hard as i found it, there are more demanding jobs out there.
