and the overture begins - extra video

back in august the peak of the perseid meteor shower coincided with a cloudless night sky so i went up to hampstead heath in the hope of capturing some photos. unfortunately this event also coincided with a full moon, so the stars weren't as bright as i would have liked and i only saw one (off camera) meteor. despite this failure i was quite happy with the location i had chosen, and vowed to return when the sky and moon were both more agreeable. i did this a couple of weeks later, with a clear sky forecast, and set up a timelapse facing north towards polaris. the timelapse took pictures so quick that there wasn't time to preview the previous photo before the next one began capturing, so i let it run blind whilst i listened to a podcast. about fifteen minutes into this clouds started to appear, despite forecasts to the contrary, and hung around until i eventually stopped the timelapse. upon checking the last photo i discovered that the misty conditions had also caused the front of the lens to fog up and the image was completely blurry. needless to say i walked back home feeling like a failure again. there were quite a few rejected shots, and even more with cloud cover, but i still thought i'd see what i could salvage from the remains. to my surprise the clouds didn't ruin the image, but actually added to it by creating a lightburst effect emanating from behind the trees. i had no idea that would happen, but i love those happy accidents when things don't go exactly to plan.

with a few hundred images i thought i'd collect them all into a little timelapse video - put to music from arms and sleepers
