a stoic last stand - extra image
i imagine when animals of different spieces interact they instinctivly suss out if the other is a potential predator or prey. if the result is niether then mostly the reaction is one of indifference, and that certainly appeared to be the case in saint andrews bay with the king penguins and seals. if the fur seals got too close to each other then they would aggressively defend their territory, whereas the penguins would often huddle together in large numbers with the occasional squabble, but when they mixed together i never saw any kind of tension. so i was suprised to find out that fur seals do occasiaonally eat penguins, which paints this encounter in a slightly different light.
