concrete jungle
upon my first visit to the doctor in sandakan i told him that i intended to go to the jungle, climb a mountain and scuba dive in the ocean. he wasn't optimistic, but when i returned from the jungle he was happy with how my foot was healing, and said if it was good a week later then scuba diving could be a possibility. however the mountain climb was in a couple of days, and i didn't need a professional to tell me that i wouldn't enjoy slowly limping up the highest mountain in malaysia. plus i didn't want to risk further damage which would threaten my scuba chances, so instead i spent a couple of days in the big city of kota kinabalu. mobility was still an impediment, but it was good to explore the street markets, drink with the locals and eat some weird local fruit.
