endless fascination - extra image
i took this shot of ubai after he had gathered up yak shit to make a fire, and before i had woken up in the middle of the night to photograph the stars. as antisocial as staring at a phone can be, it was an invaluable device to have in kyrgyzstan. not only with the maps to navigate, and the translation apps to speak, but it also provided an alternate form of communication. i forget exactly what it was that i elected to show ubai at this moment, but i loved the way his face lit up when he saw it on my phone.
