i arrived into lima in peru a day late sometime on sunday evening. annoyingly my late arrival meant that i missed my flight to the jungle. i had organised a group tour, and everyone else had already set off. after speaking to the travel company on the phone it was clear that it wouldn't be practical to go to the amazon so instead i'd meet up with them all in cusco. i bought a new plane ticket when i got to the airport with the intention of heading to a hotel in lima and catching the flight the next day. about five minutes after i had bought it i thought it didn't make much sense spending money on a taxi, hotel room and return taxi when i could just get the next available flight. consequently i had to pay again to change my ticket (my spanish skills weren't polished enough to convince the ticket desk otherwise) and i spent the night in the airport before my early morning flight across the country. i was wary about falling asleep, because i didn't want to miss my flight, or lose my bag. this was some effort as i only had a few hours kip the day before. i think i managed about an hour at the airport, a little less on the plane, and most of the subsequent afternoon/evening/night when i finally got to cusco. this was taken on the flight heading east towards the rising sun.
