it felt good to get my feet strapped to a plank of wood and slide on the snow again. i hadn't been away on a boarding holiday for a over three years and my progress followed a familiar pattern - start off a bit shaky, slowly get confident and remember what to do, and finally hit my stride as it's time to go home. one extra burden i had on the slopes was this camera and this lens. it acted as a strong motivation not to fall over, but that probably made me take less risks and not push myself as hard. as i returned to the uk with no broken bones, and more importantly no broken camera, i guess that balances out as a good thing. i still had a good few falls, and seemed to return to the apartment with a different part of my body hurting. the benefit of this was that when one part was hurting, i forgot about the others, so at least the pain was spread around. there was one particularly painful fall, which i think every boarder has experienced, where i slipped and landed square on my coxix... or arse bone if you want the technical term. yeah, that sensation hung around for a while.
